Overview
Architectural Technology at Red River College Polytechnic prepares students to turn conceptual designs into the technical documents needed for construction. The 20-month diploma uses Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to develop visualizations, analyses, and project planning for residential and commercial projects, drawing on collaborative strategies across the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. The program is delivered at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg with an August intake, includes a mandatory four-month co-op work term between Year 1 and Year 2, and uses laptop-based course delivery. Graduates may pursue accreditation with the Architectural and Building Technologists Association of Manitoba (ABTAM) and Construction Specifications Canada (CSC). The program leads to a diploma credential.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must submit proof of graduation from or enrolment in Grade 12, including Grade 12 English (40S) and Grade 12 Math (40S) — Applied Math or Pre-Calculus Math is recommended — with a strong background in science also recommended; final transcripts are due by July 15 for fall enrolment. English language requirements are met by three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country where English was the language of instruction, or by an approved English language assessment. Mature applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least one year may complete Math and Reading Comprehension assessments in place of high school graduation, with a referral from an Admissions Officer. International applicants require a credential assessment.
