Overview
Magnetic Resonance Imaging - 1st Discipline is a 28-month diploma preparing students to become MRI technologists who use magnetic fields and radiofrequency energy to produce diagnostic images of the brain, nervous system, cardiovascular system, and soft tissues. Coursework covers anatomy, pathology, physics, and patient care, combined with extensive clinical placements embedded throughout the program. The program is delivered in a blended format combining online coursework with required in-person instruction; regular on-campus attendance is mandatory throughout, and the program cannot be completed fully online. Training takes place at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg and at clinical training hospitals across the province. Because the program is funded, it is open to Manitoba residents only, and applicants must complete a Safety Checklist screening prior to entering the clinical component. Graduates gain the technical imaging skills and patient-centred care and safety leadership needed to work as MRI technologists within diagnostic imaging teams.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must provide proof of graduation from, or enrolment in, Grade 12, including one credit each in Applied Math 40S or Pre-Calculus Math 40S, Biology 40S, Physics 40S, and English 40S, with a minimum of 80% in each course. A completed Safety Checklist and Applicant Declaration for Check Documents Form must be submitted, along with a Program Readiness Video requested later in the application process. Applicants who completed three years of full-time high school in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country in English meet the English Language Requirement; others must provide proof of an approved English language assessment. First Aid certification, a Criminal Record Check, Provincial Child Abuse Registry Check, and required immunizations and testing must be submitted after classes begin. This funded program is open to Manitoba residents only, and the annual application deadline is February 1.
