Overview
A fully online, textbook-free master's for mid-career professionals who want a research-based degree in how people learn and how contemporary learning environments should be designed, developed and implemented. Readings come at no cost through open resources, ebooks, journals and online sources, and the program is built on open educational practice, networked learning and the development of a digital mindset. Students explore the history, developments and live debates in learning and technology, the impact of learning communities, and gain hands-on experience designing digital learning experiences, alongside the leadership skills needed to implement and evaluate digital learning at work. It suits facilitators, trainers, instructors and educators working in government, business, healthcare, non-profits, K-12 and higher education. The degree ends with a choice of completion option: a thesis, an applied research project or a digital learning research consulting project.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and at least three years of professional experience in a leadership or management position directly related to the program's learning outcomes. Flexible admission applies to applicants with at least seven years of work experience, including a minimum of two years in a leadership or management position with the same relevance. The programme page defers to Royal Roads University's institution-wide English language requirement for applicants whose first language is not English or who were not educated in English: for third-year-entry and graduate programs, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants also submit a two-to-three-page letter of intent, a detailed résumé, official transcripts and two reference letters.
