Overview
Developed with input from the International Institute for Child Rights and Development and Child Frontiers, this certificate helps professionals working with children and youth move beyond ethnocentric child-protection models toward more holistic, community-partnered approaches to wellbeing. Students examine both formal regulatory systems and informal community structures, working cross-culturally in Canadian and international contexts, and may transfer credits into a related two-year master's degree, in some cases receiving the master's-level degree in place of the certificate. Delivered online over nine months, the program has students take one course at a time over nine weeks, followed by a two-week break, at roughly 20 hours of work per week; it opens with two required non-credit courses, one on the online platform and one on academic integrity. Core courses cover reframing child wellbeing in complex global realities, case studies on promoting children's wellbeing, and engaged changemaking with children, youth, families, communities, and nations.

Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum GPA of 'B+' (3.33/4.33), plus at least two years of relevant work with children, preferably at a leadership or management level. Flexible admission applies to applicants who meet the degree requirement but not the GPA, who need a minimum five years of relevant professional experience, or to applicants without an undergraduate degree, who normally need ten years of work experience including at least two years in a leadership or management position; flexible-admission applicants normally complete Academic Writing and Critical Thinking first. The programme page defers to Royal Roads University's institution-wide English language requirement for applicants whose first language is not English or who were not educated in English: for third-year-entry and graduate programs, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants also submit a personal statement, a detailed résumé, official transcripts and reference letters.

RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
