This two-year applied bachelor's degree covers Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on collecting, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data about Earth's surface. Students learn to use GIS software to build maps, analyze geographic patterns, and apply results to urban planning, environmental management, resource management, and emergency services. The first year consists of two 15-week semesters of foundational coursework in GIS fundamentals, relational database management, cartographic principles, and GIS software applications, alongside training in critical thinking and problem-solving for spatial challenges. The second year includes an 800-hour work-integrated learning practicum where students apply classroom knowledge to real-world GIS projects and complete a capstone project addressing a business or organizational challenge. The program is delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus and is intended for applicants who already hold a post-secondary credential. Graduates are prepared for roles in mapping, spatial analysis, and geographic data management, and the program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
