The Pre-employment Auto Body certificate program provides foundational training for entry into the auto body repair trade. Over 12 weeks, students learn to prepare vehicles for repair, including paint removal, taping, sanding, masking and surface preparation, along with applying fillers and undercoats to smooth imperfections. The curriculum also covers component removal and installation, detailing techniques, and safe use of auto body tools and equipment. The program includes two weeks of hands-on work in an operational auto body shop. It aligns with the first period of Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Auto Body Technician curriculum, allowing graduates to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam, then continue toward journeyperson certification as an auto body prepper, refinisher or repairer. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program does not accept international applicants.
