This two-year diploma from SAIT's School of Construction covers the collection, analysis and application of spatial data across four 15-week semesters, with intakes each September. Coursework covers land surveying methods for determining point locations and measuring distances and angles, remote sensing using satellite and aerial sensors, cartography and mapmaking, geographic information systems (GIS) for managing and presenting spatial data, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and GPS positioning, photogrammetry, and geography as it relates to spatial patterns and human-environment interaction. Students also learn to build and use digital maps for interactive analysis. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program accepts international applicants but does not currently meet Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility requirements. Graduates are prepared for roles in surveying, mapping technology, energy, civil engineering, GIS and government, among other engineering-technologist positions. Recent graduate surveys report a 92% employment rate and an average starting salary of $67,602.

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need at least 50% in Math 30-1 or at least 70% in Math 30-2, at least 50% in English Language Arts 30-1 or English Language Arts 30-2, and at least 50% in Science 30 or Physics 20. SAIT accepts recognised high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta, and applicants educated outside Canada must provide an international document assessment showing they meet the same standard. All applicants, including those educated in Canada, must demonstrate English language proficiency before admission (SAIT admissions, English Proficiency). SAIT's institution-wide scale accepts IELTS Academic at 6.0 in each skill, TOEFL iBT at a total score of 4.5 with a 4.5 minimum per section, PTE Academic at 53, the Duolingo English Test at 115 overall with 95 minimum per sub-score, and CAEL at 60 overall with 60 in each skill, among other accepted tests.
