Trades - Apprenticeship in Roofer

The Roofer program is a four-year apprenticeship offered by SAIT in partnership with Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training authority, leading to a certificate and journeyperson status in the Red Seal-endorsed roofing trade. Apprentices train to prepare and apply protective coverings to flat and sloped roof surfaces according to construction plans and specifications, including installing barriers, membranes, shingles, and flashing across a range of roofing systems. The program combines paid on-the-job training with formal technical instruction: each of the first three years requires a minimum of 1,420 hours of on-the-job training plus six weeks of classroom instruction, while the fourth year requires 1,600 hours of on-the-job training. Classroom instruction is delivered through blended learning, combining on-campus classes and labs with online coursework. Applicants must be Alberta residents or have their primary place of work in Alberta, and must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, in addition to meeting the trade's education requirements set by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
