This two-year diploma prepares students for live broadcast production across television, streaming and digital media platforms. Coursework covers real-time production exercises, control-room and studio operations, and technical training in camera, audio and switching equipment. Students take on roles such as producer, director, technical operator and content manager, working in simulated newsroom, sports broadcasting and entertainment production environments. The program requires 66 credits across 20 courses over two years, with an optional paid work term between year one and year two. Graduates of SAIT's Digital Media Production certificate can enter the program in year two and complete one additional year to earn the diploma. Graduates receive a SAIT Live Media and Television Production diploma and are prepared for roles in newsrooms, sports broadcasting, entertainment programming, corporate communications and digital streaming.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency and complete the following courses or equivalents: at least 60% in English 30-1 or English 30-2, and at least 60% in Math 20-1 or Math 20-2. Alternatively, successful completion of SAIT's Digital Media Production Certificate provides advanced standing to the second year of the diploma. SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide proof of meeting program admission requirements through an international document assessment.
