Overview
This applied certificate program prepares phlebotomists to collect blood from patients, manage and handle specimens, and perform associated data entry, alongside training in professional practice, infection control and safety, specimen collection and handling, basic specimen processing, and electrocardiogram (ECG) administration. Theory is delivered through online distance learning, with laboratory sessions held in Saskatoon on designated dates and clinical placements at various sites across the province, concluding with a two-week consecutive clinical practicum within eight weeks of finishing theory coursework. The program runs 24 weeks and involves a substantial weekly homework load. Graduates are prepared for entry-level phlebotomy and specimen-collection roles in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic laboratories. The program is not eligible for the Canada-Saskatchewan student loan program, and students cover separate costs for background checks, immunizations, mask fitting, and required certifications.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 with a minimum overall average of 60%, including 30-level English Language Arts, Foundations of Mathematics 20 and 30 or Pre-Calculus 30, Health Science 20 or Biology 30, and Physical Science 20 or Chemistry 30. Applicants must demonstrate a minimum keyboarding speed of 25 net words per minute at 90% accuracy. Admission also requires current immunization records, N95 respirator fit testing, a Criminal Record Check, a Vulnerable Sector Search, WHMIS 2015 GHS certification, and TLR or SMART object-moving certification.
