Victim Services Coordination is a 15-week applied certificate program delivered by Saskatchewan Polytechnic through the Centre for Continuing Education, with online and distance study options, allowing students to take courses part time while continuing to work. The program builds practical, applicable knowledge and skills in case management, client services strategies, community partnerships, the criminal justice system, personal wellness and self-care, response to traumatic events, and volunteer coordination. Rather than applying for admission and having requirements assessed up front, students register for individual courses through the Centre for Continuing Education and apply to graduate once all courses in the program are complete. Graduates are prepared to work as a victim services coordinator, assistant coordinator, domestic violence caseworker, or Indigenous resource officer, with police services, corrections services, or community-based programs supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Because the field requires direct contact with vulnerable people, students must not have a criminal record and may be required to pass an enhanced reliability security clearance and meet other security requirements set by individual employers.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The program lists Grade 12 as its academic requirement, but applicants do not formally apply or have admission requirements assessed; instead, students register for individual courses through the Centre for Continuing Education and apply to graduate once all program courses are complete. Applicants without the standard academic credential can be considered through the alternative admission assessment; for this program, the ACCUPLACER cut scores are 240 in Reading and 238 in Writing, or 15 approved post-secondary credits. Students must not have a criminal record for which no pardon has been granted, and may be required to pass an enhanced reliability security clearance and meet other security requirements set by individual employers before working in the field.
