Overview
The first intake of this program will begin in September 2026. In two years, the Construction Engineering Technician program will prepare you to carry out technical functions related to a broad range of construction projects. You’ll learn to prepare and interpret blueprints and specifications, apply sustainable construction practices, operate surveying equipment, and assist with construction layout and estimating. Get hands-on experience with the safe operation of tools and equipment, as well as construction materials testing. Build skills that are key to success in the civil engineering industry with AutoCAD and Civil 3D. A co-op placement in the summer semester before Year 2 offers real-world experience with a local employer. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for technician-level roles across residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and government sectors. Courses in carpentry, mathematics, surveying, estimating, concrete and framework, technical communication, soil mechanics, project management and law, municipal services, and structural analysis will build the skills needed to support supervisors, engineers, and contractors. Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, mature student status, or equivalent, with Grade 12 English (College Preparation, ENG4C) and either Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (MCT4C) or Grade 12 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C). Applicants educated outside Canada or whose prior study was not in English must meet Sault College's general Diploma and College Certificate language standard: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79-80 with no test score below 20, PTE Academic 60 with no communicative skill below 52, or Duolingo English Test 110 with no band below 105.
