Overview

General Machinist is an in-school apprenticeship training programme at Sault College for registered machining apprentices, delivered across three levels that complement on-the-job hours with an employer. Level 1 coursework covers applied trade safety practices, trade calculations, metallurgy, metrology, benchworking, metal cutting, drilling, turning, vertical milling, and surface grinding. Level 2 adds engineering drawings and CAD data, cylindrical grinding, and CNC turning technology, and Level 3 adds complex engineering drawings, complex turning, milling and grinding technology, and machining-centre CNC technology. Training combines classroom instruction with hands-on shop practice on manual and CNC machine tools.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This in-school training is for registered apprentices only; applicants must already be sponsored by an employer and registered as a machining apprentice before enrolling.
