Program details
Overview
The Psychology Associate of Arts Degree is a two-year, 60-credit university-transfer credential at Selkirk College's Castlegar campus covering the scientific study of mind and behaviour, including human thought, experience and action. Coursework is organized across four terms and combines psychology courses with the general-education requirements shared across Selkirk's Associate of Arts degrees. Delivered on campus, with intakes in Fall, Winter and Spring, the associate degree is a formally established, province-wide-recognized credential. Graduation requires completion of 60 credits of university-level study in selected areas with an overall GPA of 2.0. The degree is a pathway to a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and to careers in counselling, communications, business and education, and may qualify graduates for a post-graduation work permit; students continuing to another institution should confirm course transferability through the BC Transfer Guide.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: In addition to Selkirk College's general admission requirements under Policy 8611: Admissions, applicants to the Associate of Arts must achieve a minimum of 60% in English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, or the college's own ENGL 601 course. Students whose first language is not English must fulfil Selkirk's English-language-proficiency requirement under Policy 8611, Appendix A, equivalent to an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band below 5.5. Intakes are offered in Fall, Winter and Spring.
