Overview
The Rural Pre-Medicine (RPM) Associate Degree in Science and Advanced Diploma is designed for students with a wide variety of backgrounds. The comprehensive and supportive program provides a rigorous academic foundation in the life sciences and is designed as a pathway to medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dentistry, physical therapy, midwifery, veterinary medicine, naturopathy, public health, biomedical research and more. Together with your cohort, you will gain exposure to the field of rural health care and develop strengths in leadership, resilience, communication, and collaboration.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires graduation from secondary school (or equivalent) and BC Provincial Curriculum courses (or equivalents) at a minimum of 67% each: English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, or an IELTS score of at least 6.5; Pre-Calculus 12; Chemistry 11; and two further Grade 12 courses, one of which must be a science, with Biology 12 (Anatomy and Physiology 12) and Chemistry 12 strongly recommended. A complete application needs the Selkirk College and RPM program application forms, official transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended, and completed RPM personal reference forms. Admission is selective and competitive: successful applicants are chosen through a combined evaluation of academic qualifications, non-academic activities, and connection to rurality, with only a limited number of the most qualified applicants admitted each cycle. A non-refundable $500 seat deposit is required by the offer-acceptance deadline, after which remaining or vacated seats go to a waitlist populated from the original selection process.
