Overview
Begin your path towards a career in mechanical engineering.Program OverviewStand out from the crowd as a job-ready engineering graduateWith rapid changes in industry, companies are seeking engineering graduates who are ready to work from day one. Few engineering degrees in Canada will give you the same level of hands-on experience with industry-standard advanced technology. You’ll also practice finding solutions for real-world problems in the industry and the community.Work with the latest mechanical engineering technologySheridan's labs are like no other in Ontario. Get a degree that prepares you to work with 3D printers, robotics, rapid prototyping, integrated energy systems including solar, wind, and geothermal energy, HVAC systems, water jet technology, advanced mechatronics system equipment and more. At Sheridan, we believe the best way to learn is to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on.Specialize in energy or mechatronicsIn your third and fourth years of study, you’ll specialize in one of two technical streams — energy or mechatronics. In the energy stream, you’ll learn to provide environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for energy generation, distribution and usage. In the mechatronics stream, you’ll learn to solve engineering problems with mechanical, electrical, computer and control engineering.Learn skills that are in high demandWhether you choose to specialize in energy or mechatronics, you’ll be learning skills that are in high demand. Become a leader of tomorrow in the growing energy systems sector and help solve the world’s energy problems through your ability to analyze, model, design, develop and operate sustainable systems. Or study robotics (including robotics with artificial intelligence and vision systems), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and other automation systems, skills that are extremely valuable as industries continue moving towards automation. No matter which stream you choose, you’ll get a solid foundation in essential maths (linear algebra, calculus, statistics) and sciences (chemistry, physics, computer programming, electrical circuits). You’ll also take core mechanical courses with a balance of engineering science and design in three key areas: mechanical sciences; systems, measurements and control; and thermal-fluid sciences.Co-op and internship opportunitiesOur Mechanical Engineering degree program features a four-month internship after your second year. You can also choose to apply for our co-op program, which adds two optional co-op work terms after your third and fourth years. This work experience will give you a chance to apply what you’ve learned in an industry setting, discover your interests, see what employment opportunities are available in the field and build on your résumé. Our industry partners are excited about the combined 12-month co-op opportunity, which is longer than many co-op placements. They recognize that this provides more opportunity to establish working relationships with students that they can hire in the future.Project-based learningThis program offers a new model for mechanical engineering education. Each year, you’ll work with your fellow students on a single project that spans your classes and subjects. This approach will help you better understand how each subject contributes to a larger engineering project. You’ll quickly see the value of each course and learn to apply all your acquired skills to solve an engineering problem that you’d encounter in industry.Competitive edgeAs a Mechanical Engineering student at Sheridan, you’ll be a trailblazer in a changing field. Industry is in a period of transition as more and more companies move towards automation and sustainable energy solutions. When you graduate from this program, you’ll be prepared to help lead the way into the future.Want more information?Find answers about how to apply, fees, transfer credits and more in the Frequently Asked Questions section.Explore your future classroomAs a student in our Honours Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree program you’ll get hands-on in labs designed to imitate the real-world workplace. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g., acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies or other educational institutions).PBENM
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: This is Sheridan's part-time degree-completion route into the Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), open to graduates of a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MTCU 61007), Electromechanical Engineering Technology (MTCU 61021), or a closely related program, each requiring a minimum program GPA of 3.0 (70%). Sheridan reserves the right to evaluate and deny admission where the prior credential was completed more than five years ago and its content is considered outdated. The program's Degree Completion section states no separate language requirement; Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for degree-level admission applies: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88 (no section below 21), PTE 60 (no section below 57), Duolingo 115 (no subscore below 95) or CAEL 70 (no section below 60).
Application Details
Start Date:September, January and May
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting in Fall 2027 the application opened 26 September 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers can go out from 1 November 2026, with portfolio- and audition-based programmes deciding later in March; accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027. Winter and Spring/Summer 2027 entry use the same portal but Sheridan publishes no fixed equal-consideration date for them and reviews those on an ongoing basis. International applicants apply directly through Sheridan's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; the college publishes no fixed international deadline and admits on a rolling, space-permitting basis, so early application is advised for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
