Overview
Electromechanical Engineering Technician is a two-year Ontario College Diploma at Sheridan College combining electrical and mechanical engineering. Students study general mechanical engineering concepts in the first year, then focus on programmable logic controllers and robotics in the final two semesters. The program blends theoretical study with hands-on learning, including work with automated systems and mechatronic applications in Sheridan's laboratories, and offers opportunities to work with professors on applied research projects for industry partners. Graduates are qualified to help design, install, maintain, operate, supervise and service complex electromechanical systems, complete all academic requirements for professional certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), and can progress directly into the final year of Sheridan's related three-year Electromechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent including one English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U), and one Math, Grade 12 (U) or Math Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (MCT4C) or Math Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U) or Functions and Applications (MCF3M), or mature student status for applicants aged 19 or older who lack the prerequisites. Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements may be invited to complete pre-admission tests in mathematics and English, with a minimum grade of 60% required on both to be considered for admission. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for certificate and diploma programs: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT overall 80 (no section below 20), PTE Academic overall 58 (no section below 49), or Duolingo English Test overall 105 (no sub-score below 85).
