The Honours Bachelor of Community Safety is a four-year honours baccalaureate degree offered at Sheridan College, described as the first program of its kind in Canada. It addresses community safety through a lens of prevention, preparedness and social justice rather than traditional law enforcement approaches, and has been endorsed by groups including the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Coursework covers government, law enforcement and emergency planning, partnerships between police and community groups, advocacy for marginalized and vulnerable populations, and the effects of global events such as conflict and climate change on local perceptions of safety. The program combines social sciences, leadership, policing and crisis management, with projects that span multiple classes and subjects to build a broad, integrated perspective on community wellness. Students complete a full-time co-op work term between semesters seven and eight in an area related to their career interests, such as government, law enforcement or non-profit work, building on communication, research, critical-thinking, facilitation and negotiation skills developed throughout the degree. The program suits students drawn to community-facing, policy-oriented safety work who want an alternative to a conventional policing or criminal-justice credential.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting in Fall 2027 the application opened 26 September 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers can go out from 1 November 2026, with portfolio- and audition-based programmes deciding later in March; accepted offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2027.
