Program details
Overview
This Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program examines the criminal justice system critically, addressing social inequality, crime prevention, and rehabilitation alongside issues in law, human rights, Indigenous justice, and the influence of race, class, and gender on the administration of justice. It shares a common first year with the university's other BA programs before students continue into criminology-specific coursework, and it offers the option of a double major with history, politics and governance, or sociology. Delivery is full-time, either as a standard four-year program or a five-year stream incorporating a co-op work term, and the program describes experiential learning through international exchanges, optional paid co-op placements, and research and case-study work. Admission is grades-only, requiring a minimum average across six Ontario Grade 12 U/M courses. The program suits students aiming at roles connected to the justice system, such as court-related work, human rights advocacy, probation or parole, restorative justice, or social policy analysis, rather than a law degree or policing-specific credential.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires the OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred) at a minimum of 70%, and an overall average of at least 70% to be considered; recent admitting averages have run 75-80% and fluctuate with application volume and available spaces. Applicants without Ontario schooling may be considered with the recognised equivalent, at TMU's discretion. The programme page defers to the university's general admission requirements for English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no minimum band), TOEFL iBT 92, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 60 or CAEL 70.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Toronto Metropolitan University sets one guaranteed-consideration date for both domestic and international applicants applying for Fall 2027 entry: complete applications and amendments received by 1 February 2027 receive equal consideration for admission, and TMU says this same date applies to 'all domestic & international applicants.' Non-academic ('Grades-Plus') requirements are generally due around this point too, though the exact date varies by programme. For Winter 2027 (January-start) entry, TMU's program-status page gives domestic applicants a guaranteed-consideration date of 1 December 2026, with most programmes closing applications in mid-December; a limited number of programmes separately accept international applications for winter admission subject to space availability, but TMU publishes no fixed closing date for those international winter applicants. Admission is not rolling: late applications are considered only as space allows after the guaranteed-consideration date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
