Overview

Biological Anthropology is a certificate offered through the Department of Archaeology in the Faculty of Environment at Simon Fraser University. The program examines the genes, physiology, and behaviour of humans and other primates through a biological lens, with an emphasis on hands-on fieldwork experience. Students complete a minimum of 27 units, maintaining a minimum 2.25 grade point average calculated on grades earned in the certificate program's own courses. Required courses include Human Origins, Uncovering the Secrets of the Dead, and Human Osteology, the last of which requires a minimum grade of B. Students also complete one biology course, one quantitative methods course, and a set of electives drawn from approved biological anthropology offerings. At least 12 of the required units must be completed at Simon Fraser University. Course sections are offered both in person and online.
