Overview
The Biological Anthropology Certificate gives you the opportunity to study the genes, physiology, and behaviour of humans and other primates through a biological lens. You'll take courses in biology, human origins and osteology, biological anthropology, primate behaviour, ancient and forensic DNA, and more. You'll also gain hands-on experience through a variety of fieldwork options. The program can open up careers in archeology, community and public health, forensics, musuem curation, medicine, and more.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Biological Anthropology certificate is a post-admission credential: students apply for it only after completing 30 units at SFU, rather than through a separate direct-entry admission process. To have reached that point, a student would already hold standard SFU undergraduate admission through EducationPlannerBC (secondary-school or transfer entry) into the Faculty of Environment. The certificate's overview and apply pages do not state a minimum GPA, specific prerequisite courses, or an English-language test score on top of that existing undergraduate standing, and instead direct applicants to the Archaeology area-of-study entry in SFU's Academic Calendar for any further conditions that may apply.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, with one set of dates per applicant type rather than by citizenship. Fall 2027 entry: high-school-route applications open 1 October 2026 and close 31 January 2027, while transfer applications open 1 March 2027 and close 15 April 2027 (Education and Contemporary Arts transfer applicants may apply from 1 October 2026). Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Admission documents are generally due 28 February 2027 (Fall) and offers must be accepted by 1 May. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC dates and portal; SFU publishes no separate international deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
