Program details

Overview

Environmental Toxicology is a minor offered by the Department of Biological Sciences in SFU's Faculty of Science. The program is for students who want to research and monitor how toxic substances, such as chemical pesticides, affect natural environments. Coursework draws on organic chemistry, cellular biology, and physics to build the scientific foundation needed to study how contaminants move through and affect ecosystems and living organisms. As a minor, the program is completed alongside a student's primary major rather than as a stand-alone credential, and it adds a documented specialization in toxicology and environmental monitoring to that degree. The program's overview page does not list a fixed course sequence; the full minor description and required courses are set out in the Simon Fraser University Academic Calendar. Students pursue this alongside majors such as Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, or related science programs at SFU.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Environmental Toxicology minor has no separate admission process of its own: its official overview page lists only an Overview, Career possibilities, and How to apply tab, with no dedicated requirements page. It is declared by students already admitted to an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Science (or another eligible faculty) at Simon Fraser University, so eligibility follows the general admission requirements of the applicant's primary degree program rather than a minor-specific GPA, prerequisite course, or English-test score. Further conditions, if any, are set out in the minor description in the SFU Academic Calendar.
