BA/BS in Curriculum and Instruction

The Curriculum and Instruction Minor is offered by the Faculty of Education for students who want theoretical and practical expertise in contemporary approaches to curriculum development and instructional design, and may be added to any major program. Students study how school curriculum is developed and how instructional methods are designed, covering both the conceptual foundations and applied aspects of teaching. The minor requires six units of lower-division Education coursework, including Introduction to Educational Psychology, and 15 units of upper-division coursework built around Curriculum Development: Theory and Practice together with additional upper-division Education or Educational Psychology and Reading courses. As with all Simon Fraser University degree programs, students must also satisfy the university's writing, quantitative, and breadth requirements. The minor suits students preparing for teaching-related careers or graduate study who want a grounding in curriculum theory alongside their primary major.
