Program details

Overview

The History and Global Humanities joint major is a Bachelor of Arts program at Simon Fraser University, jointly administered by the Department of History and the Department of Global Humanities. It explores the relationships between historical inquiry and global humanistic perspectives, requiring students to complete coursework in both disciplines rather than a single department's curriculum. The program totals 120 units, including lower-division and upper-division units in both History and Global Humanities, with at least six lower-division History units required before students may enrol in 300-division History coursework. Students plan their program in consultation with advisors in both departments and may pursue optional concentrations offered within either discipline. At least half of the program's total units, and two-thirds of its upper-division units, must be completed through SFU coursework. Graduates are prepared for further study or careers in research, education, publishing, policy, and other fields that draw on historical and humanistic analysis.
