The Political Science and Economics joint major is a Bachelor of Arts program at Simon Fraser University that combines coursework in both departments to examine how political and economic phenomena interact in the modern world. Students complete 120 units in total, including lower-division requirements in political science and foundational economics courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, and statistics, followed by at least 24 upper-division units in political science and at least 25 upper-division units in economics. Students may also choose an optional concentration in Economic Data Analysis or Economic Analysis for Public Policy. The program is delivered in person at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses. It is intended for students who want a combined grounding in political institutions and processes alongside economic theory and analysis, preparing graduates for further study or careers spanning public policy, government, research, and analysis roles that draw on both disciplines.
