Overview

Business and Economics is a joint major offered by the Beedie School of Business and the Department of Economics in SFU's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The programme combines business management study with the analysis of economic systems and issues such as recessions, inflation and income inequality. Students complete a total of 120 units and graduate with either a Bachelor of Arts from Arts and Social Sciences or a Bachelor of Business Administration from Beedie. The Economics side requires at least 25 upper-division units in ECON courses, while the Business side requires core courses, two 400-level business courses, and concentration requirements totalling at least 27 upper-division business units. Entry to the Economics component requires 30 completed units, a grade of at least C- in ECON 201, and meeting the Department of Economics' minimum cumulative and programme grade point averages, which the department sets and publishes separately.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This joint major requires applicants to separately qualify for admission to both the Economics component and the Beedie School of Business component and to meet the requirements of each. For Economics, students may apply once they have completed 30 units, earned at least a C- in ECON 201, and met the Department of Economics' minimum cumulative and programme grade point averages, which the department publishes and revises periodically. Admission to the Beedie School of Business is competitive: applicants must meet minimum grade point average requirements to be considered, though meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission.
