BA/BS in Social Justice

Social Justice is an undergraduate certificate offered by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University. The program examines the causes of unequal treatment and develops students' ability to compare and contrast interlocking patterns of oppression and exploitation while building strategies for social change. It develops competence in identifying and examining the causes and consequences of social inequalities and the differential treatment of groups and individuals on the basis of factors including gender, sexual orientation, class, race, ethnicity, and religion. Students complete a minimum of 25 units of required and optional coursework, including SA 255 (Introduction to Social Research) and one of SA 101 (Introduction to Anthropology) or SA 150 (Introduction to Sociology), together with further courses addressing social inequality. The certificate can be combined with any major or minor. Students must apply for the certificate no later than two terms prior to graduation.
