BA/BS in Spanish Studies

Spanish Studies is a certificate offered by Simon Fraser University's Department of World Languages and Literatures in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It gives students enrichment in the language and literature of the Spanish-speaking world, building intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in writing, reading, listening, and speaking. The certificate requires a minimum of 18 units: four Spanish-language courses from a specified sequence plus at least two elective courses drawn from a supplementary list covering Hispanic literature, culture, and linguistics. It can be completed concurrently with a student's primary major or minor, and courses used toward the certificate may also count toward a Bachelor of Arts within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, including breadth requirements. There are no specific admission requirements; a student already registered at SFU declares the certificate by contacting the World Languages and Literatures academic advisor. Courses are offered on the Burnaby campus.
