African Studies Certificate

Admission Requirements: This overview page states no certificate-specific admission test or minimum average; it defers to Simon Fraser University's general undergraduate admission requirements, since the African Studies certificate is declared by students after they are admitted to SFU. Canadian secondary-school applicants must graduate with at least five approved academic Grade 12 courses, including English Studies 12 or its equivalent, with 70% or better in Language Arts 11, English 12, or equivalent, plus any faculty-specific Grade 11/12 prerequisites; approved AP or IB courses may substitute. International secondary-school applicants must graduate from a university-preparatory stream and submit a transcript with final first-semester senior-year grades, evaluated against SFU's published country equivalencies. English-language proficiency follows SFU's general scale (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0). Once admitted, the certificate itself requires 30 units of coursework (18 lower-division, 12 upper-division), with no additional declared GPA threshold stated on the program page.
