BA/BS in Anthropology and Criminology

Anthropology and Criminology is a joint major leading to a Bachelor of Arts, offered by the School of Criminology together with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The program combines criminological study of Canadian criminal justice systems, law as a social phenomenon, and the social construction of deviance with anthropological perspectives on the relation between class, gender, ethnicity, and crime. Students engage with criminological theory alongside anthropological methods for studying contemporary life and society. Students complete 120 units in total, including a minimum of 45 upper-division units drawn from both departments. Declaration into the joint major requires a minimum 2.25 cumulative grade point average. Courses are offered both in person, at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses, and online, with admission intake in the Fall semester.
