Simon Fraser University offers Digital Media: Master's Degree (MDM), a master's degree in Digital Media & Game Development programme in Burnaby, Canada. The programme is delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 69,710 per total (CAD 38,339 per total for local students).
The Master of Digital Media is a professional graduate program based in Vancouver at the Centre for Digital Media, carrying the seal of four partner institutions: Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, Emily Carr University of Art + Design and BCIT, so that graduates become alumni of all four. It combines collaborative, project-based learning with hands-on work for real industry clients, with more than half the curriculum devoted to client projects in which multidisciplinary teams take prototypes or applications from concept through to final deliverable. The program opens with foundational courses in areas such as foundations of digital media, game design and gamification, improvisation for collaboration and a virtual worlds build project, then moves into career specialisation and client or venture project semesters, closing with a four-month term dedicated to supported career exploration. An optional startup path lets teams pitch a venture to an industry panel and, if successful, develop it with access to funding, technology accelerators and mentorship. It draws project managers, developers, designers and artists from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
