Overview

Get certified as a teacher in B.C. while continuing to work in your paraprofessional role. The flexible Professional Linking Program enables student support workers, education assistants, counselors and other paraprofessionals employed by the school district and working in K-12 classrooms transition to a teaching career.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 2.50 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have at least two years of paraprofessional experience in their current BC school-based role and be working a minimum of three days a week (60%) at application time, alongside SFU undergraduate admission eligibility and SFU's English-language and quantitative/analytical skills requirements. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, calculated on roughly the last 60 units of undergraduate coursework, is required for both elementary and secondary applicants. Elementary-stream applicants need a completed bachelor's degree or at least 90 units toward one, plus two English courses (6 units including 3 in literature), 3 units of Canadian history, 3 units of Canadian geography, a laboratory-science course, and SFU's MATH 190 or its equivalent; secondary-stream applicants need a completed 120-unit bachelor's degree with one or two teachable subjects meeting SFU's specified unit thresholds. A Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required after acceptance.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, with one set of dates per applicant type rather than by citizenship. Fall 2027 entry: high-school-route applications open 1 October 2026 and close 31 January 2027, while transfer applications open 1 March 2027 and close 15 April 2027 (Education and Contemporary Arts transfer applicants may apply from 1 October 2026). Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Admission documents are generally due 28 February 2027 (Fall) and offers must be accepted by 1 May. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC dates and portal; SFU publishes no separate international deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
