Overview
Aimed at those already working in, or seeking to work in, a profession in human services or health care, this postgraduate diploma offers a focused introduction to the core knowledge underlying counselling. Coursework is designed to strengthen effectiveness in a current role or build readiness for a career ahead in a helping-profession role, and the diploma satisfies most of the academic prerequisites for the Counselling Psychology MA or MEd.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:2.50 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Counselling and Human Development Post-Baccalaureate Diploma requires a completed bachelor's degree that includes an introductory psychology course, a course in human development, and one further upper-division psychology or sociology course, together with a minimum admission grade point average of 2.5 or equivalent. Applicants must also show at least 50 hours of relevant voluntary or paid experience and submit a written statement of career interest. The program further requires that applicants meet the general Post-Baccalaureate Diploma program requirements published in the SFU calendar. No language-test scores are stated on the program page; because entry requires an already-completed degree, English-language proficiency for degree-seeking admission follows SFU's general scale, e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0. The program takes a September intake.
