Overview

Counselling and Human Development is a minor offered by the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and may be added to any major program. It teaches theoretical, empirical and practical foundations for understanding and practising counselling, and for evaluating counselling and teaching practices within educational systems, with a focus on enhancing human development. The minor requires a minimum of 21 units: 6 lower-division units, including EDUC 220 and PSYC 250 (which itself requires PSYC 102), plus 15 upper-division units comprising two required courses and three electives, with at least 60 units completed before taking the upper-division component. Courses are offered through a mix of in-person sections at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses and online sections, and students typically begin the minor in the fall term.
