Overview
The Business Fundamentals program provides students with a broad and exploratory business education. It covers business basics such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Mathematics, and Business Communications. This program serves as the first year for the Business Core diplomas—Business, Accounting, Human Resources, and Marketing—and graduates can choose to pursue one of these diplomas or use their Business Fundamentals certificate as a foundation for other programs of study or their career. Start this program in September, October or January. *NOTE: You can start this program in October and January. Applicants should apply at www.ontariocolleges.ca as a Business Fundamentals (0973) student. All students will start in this program and transition into the Business program area of their choice. Students who start in October or January complete their first year of the program at the end of June or July and then begin second year in September.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: St. Lawrence College's Business Fundamentals certificate requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of Grade 11 and 12 courses at the C, U or M level, including Grade 12 English at the C or U level and Grade 11 Math at the C, U or M level; the program page notes that OSSD-equivalency options are listed under the college's general admission requirements. Students missing a prerequisite may enroll in the college's Career/College Prep program, free for Ontario residents aged 18 or older, and applicants with transcripts from outside Canada are directed to the college's transcript-evaluation process. The program page does not state its own language-proficiency scores; applicants whose first language is not English are assessed against St. Lawrence College's institution-wide scale for Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 4 overall (78 under the pre-January-2026 scale), PTE Academic 55, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 110 (no sub-score below 85).
