Overview
German Studies, within the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, covers the language, literature, and culture of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with instruction ranging from beginner to advanced levels. No prior knowledge of German is required to begin the program, and courses in German culture and literature are offered in both English and German. The program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree in a three-year format with a Major in German Studies, and can also be taken as a Minor alongside another major. Students may take part in a Study Abroad option in Bamberg, Germany, to continue their German-language study without additional tuition cost. Graduates often find employment in teaching, library science, publishing, travel and hospitality, business administration, government, and other fields where knowledge of German language and culture is an asset.
