BA/BS in Spanish Studies

Spanish Studies at The University of Winnipeg combines language instruction with the study of the culture, literature, and history of the Spanish-speaking world. Courses cover written and spoken Spanish at introductory through advanced levels, alongside content on Latin American social and political history, Hispanic cinema, and Spanish-language literature, including works from the Golden Age and Don Quijote. Students also study translation between English and Spanish. The program leads to a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in Spanish Studies; students majoring in another subject may add a Minor in Spanish Studies, and the department participates in an Interdepartmental Minor in Comparative Literature. First-year coursework typically includes an introductory or intermediate Spanish language course, depending on prior background, along with an academic writing requirement. Admission follows The University of Winnipeg's general entry requirements, with no specific high school courses required.
