Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Health Sciences program combines foundational science and social science coursework, including anatomy, physiology, research methods, social justice, Indigenous midwifery, and gender studies, with extensive clinical training. Placements are a mandatory component, spanning midwifery and interprofessional settings across more than two years of the program, including experience in homes, clinics, birth centres, and hospitals. It is offered full-time over four years, as a post-baccalaureate option for students who already hold a degree, or as a part-time route for first-year entry. Admission is grades-plus, combining a minimum academic average, specific Ontario Grade 12 prerequisites, and non-academic criteria such as interviews, with dedicated admission pathways for Indigenous and racialized applicants. Graduates are prepared for registration with the College of Midwives of Ontario and for work with midwifery practice groups, community health clinics, or hospital-based clinics. The program suits students committed specifically to reproductive health and midwifery care, rather than a general nursing or health sciences path, and who are prepared for a clinically intensive course of study.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires the OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and one Canadian/world-studies or social-sciences/humanities course, each at a minimum of 75%, with an overall average of at least 75%; the page notes that very few candidates are admitted directly from high school and encourages prior college or university experience. Applicants submit a Midwifery Form covering programme and placement-area preference, an optional Racial Equity Self-ID and an Indigenous Admissions option, by February 1, 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, and selected candidates are invited to a personal interview. Applicants without Ontario schooling may be considered with the recognised equivalent, at TMU's discretion; the general admission requirements page sets IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 92, Duolingo 120, PTE Academic 60 or CAEL 70 for English proficiency.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Toronto Metropolitan University sets one guaranteed-consideration date for both domestic and international applicants applying for Fall 2027 entry: complete applications and amendments received by 1 February 2027 receive equal consideration for admission, and TMU says this same date applies to 'all domestic & international applicants.' Non-academic ('Grades-Plus') requirements are generally due around this point too, though the exact date varies by programme. For Winter 2027 (January-start) entry, TMU's program-status page gives domestic applicants a guaranteed-consideration date of 1 December 2026, with most programmes closing applications in mid-December; a limited number of programmes separately accept international applications for winter admission subject to space availability, but TMU publishes no fixed closing date for those international winter applicants. Admission is not rolling: late applications are considered only as space allows after the guaranteed-consideration date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
