Chemistry at Trent University is a Bachelor of Science program covering the central discipline of science, with interdisciplinary links to other physical and life science fields. The Chemistry Department offers courses across analytical, biochemical, environmental, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, with upper-level study extending into computational, bio-inorganic, and materials chemistry. Instruction combines formal lectures with laboratory and tutorial/workshop sessions. Students may enrol in either a General or an Honours stream; many Honours students complete a research project that provides first-hand experience in chemical research design and methods. A 4U Chemistry credit or equivalent is a prerequisite for the introductory courses CHEM 1000H and 1010H, and students without this prerequisite are advised to contact the department before spring registration. Laboratory courses carry a course fee, with additional charges for breakage of equipment or glassware billed monthly to the student account.
