Program details

Overview

This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor's degree in economic sciences from Université de Montréal, offered full-time or part-time through day courses on the Montreal campus. The curriculum is built around two main axes, economic theory and quantitative methods, giving students the mathematical and statistical tools needed to analyze problems in economic forecasting and strategic decision-making. The first two years cover theoretical, statistical, and historical foundations, while the third year introduces applied fields such as labour economics, industrial economics, international economics, public economics, development economics, and finance, culminating in an applied analysis course. An honours pathway, an extended four-year option, an optional internship in research or business, and international study exchanges are available. The program is designed for students who want to understand the fundamental mechanisms that regulate economic life and to develop the analytical competencies needed to work as economists or scientific analysts examining contemporary socioeconomic issues, combining theoretical grounding with practical, data-driven analysis and reasoning skills.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from a Quebec DEC (or equivalent) is available, with the published minimum cote de rendement collegial (cote R) set at 22.0003. Because instruction is in French, applicants who did not complete secondary or CEGEP studies entirely in French, and who have not passed Quebec's Epreuve uniforme de francais, must meet specific French-course thresholds or score at least B2 in oral and written comprehension on an accepted French test taken within the previous 24 months; admitted students may also be required to sit a French-writing evaluation and, if needed, complete remedial French courses in their first year. The 90-credit programme is offered full-time over three years or part-time, admitting for both the Winter and Autumn trimesters: application deadlines are 1 November for a Winter start and, for Autumn, 1 March for CEGEP applicants or 1 February for university and out-of-province applicants, with French-proficiency documentation due by 15 December (Winter) or 15 March (Autumn).

Winter entry closes 1 November (undergraduate) or 1 September (graduate); summer closes 1 April or 1 February. International applicants, whatever extension a programme's domestic deadline may carry, must submit by 1 April (fall), 1 August (winter) or 1 December (summer) to allow time for immigration processing.
