This orientation of Universite de Montreal's specialized bachelor's degree in microbiology and immunology focuses on microbial diversity, function, and interactions across terrestrial, aquatic, and living ecosystems. Coursework examines the role of microbes in biogeochemical cycles, including ecotoxicology, their evolutionary adaptation to environmental disturbances such as climate change, and the contribution of the microbiome to health. The 90-credit program is offered jointly by the Departement de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie and the Departement de sciences biologiques and combines multidisciplinary training in bacteriology, mycology, virology, and immunology with extensive laboratory practice. Full-time study takes three years, with a part-time option also available. An honours pathway prepares students for graduate studies, and optional laboratory and workplace internships are offered. The interdisciplinary training positions graduates for further study or careers spanning earth sciences, public and environmental health, and biotechnology.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission capacity is limited. Applicants who completed CEGEP studies in Quebec must hold or be completing a Diplome d'etudes collegiales (DEC); applicants from elsewhere in Canada or abroad need an equivalent secondary or pre-university credential recognized by the university. For CEGEP and university-transfer candidates, academic record is the sole selection criterion. Applicants must meet Universite de Montreal's French-language-proficiency requirement, satisfied by completing prior schooling in French, passing Quebec's Epreuve uniforme de francais, or achieving a minimum C1 level on a recognized French test taken within 24 months before the intended start term. A criminal background check and proof of certain vaccinations are required for students placed in laboratory or workplace internships.
