The Maitrise en science politique at Universite de Montreal is a 45-credit, research-focused graduate program providing advanced training in political science with sustained faculty mentorship at every stage of the degree. Students complete the program through a thesis-based pathway or a thesis pathway combined with a practical internship, working closely with a research supervisor on an original research project. Full-time and part-time study are both available, and students may pursue an international study exchange alongside their coursework and research. Applicants are encouraged to identify a research interest and a proposed thesis supervisor before applying, though it is possible to apply without one and secure a supervisor afterward within a prescribed timeframe. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in political science or a related field. New students are admitted in the Fall and Winter terms, with applications for the Fall term accepted from August to February of the preceding cycle.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in political science or a related field. The application must include a letter of intent of up to two pages describing the applicant's research interests and proposed thesis supervisor, together with two academic references. Applicants without a pre-identified supervisor may still apply but must secure one after admission within the program's prescribed timeframe.
