Overview
The Baccalaureat en genie du batiment is a full-time, cooperative-education bachelor's degree in building engineering at Universite de Sherbrooke, with fall admission at the Sherbrooke campus. Over 120 credits, the programme applies mathematics, physics and engineering science to the structures and foundations, materials, building envelope, mechanical and electrical systems, energy performance and indoor environment of buildings, using building information modelling (BIM) and current design tools and standards. Students undertake experimental work, economic analysis and multidisciplinary project work, supported by paid co-op work terms that build professional experience progressively. Coursework spans structural and geotechnical fundamentals, thermodynamics and heat transfer, building physics, fire protection, and sustainable and energy-efficient building design. Students may pursue an integrated pathway into the Maitrise en genie civil, or an international profile allowing up to a full year of co-op study abroad with a paid placement. The programme is recognized by a professional engineering order and is built around sustainable-development principles, and admits international students with paid co-op placements available to them. It leads to a Bachelière ou bachelier en ingenierie.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B1), a DEC in Science, Literature and Art (700.A1), an International Baccalaureate diploma (200.Z1), a DEC in Computer Science and Mathematics (200.C1), an equivalent DEC combined with specific prerequisite courses in cell biology, chemistry, calculus, linear algebra and physics, a DEC in Physical Technology plus prerequisite chemistry, calculus, linear algebra and physics courses, or a DEC in Architectural Technology (221.A0), Civil Engineering Technology (221.B0), Building Mechanical Technology (221.C0), or Building Estimation and Evaluation Technology (221.D0). Applicants who completed their studies outside Quebec's collegial system are admitted conditionally on completing Universite de Sherbrooke's preparatory certificate for first-cycle programmes or an equivalent. All admitted students must also demonstrate a very good command of French, proven either by exemption or by achieving level C1 (at least 500 out of 699 across listening, reading, speaking and writing) on a recognized test.
