Overview
The Master's in Applied Geomatics and Remote Sensing (Maitrise en geomatique appliquee et teledetection) is a 45-credit second-cycle programme at the Universite de Sherbrooke, delivered through the Centre d'applications et de recherches en teledetection (CARTEL). It offers a research stream covering geomatic sciences, geographic information systems, web mapping, and Earth-observation technologies including remote-sensing image acquisition and processing, culminating in a thesis on a fundamental or applied problem in geomatics or remote sensing; and a coursework stream combining in-class instruction in Sherbrooke with distance options, laboratory and field work, and a culminating essay, with options for paid co-op work terms and international study or internship exchanges. Applicants typically hold a bachelor's degree in geomatics, geography, computer science, oceanography or another relevant natural- or social-science discipline, with foundational knowledge of linear algebra, differential calculus and computing; a preparatory term can be arranged for candidates lacking a geomatics background.

Admission Requirements: For the coursework stream, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in geomatics or another discipline (science, engineering, humanities or social science) or equivalent training; non-francophone applicants must pass a French-as-a-second-language proficiency test and may be required to take advanced French courses concurrently. For the research stream, applicants must hold a first-cycle degree in geomatics or equivalent. All applicants need a minimum cumulative average of 2.7 on a 4.3 scale or equivalent academic results. Coursework-stream applicants must submit official transcripts and diplomas, two letters of recommendation (waived for Universite de Sherbrooke applied-geomatics bachelor's graduates), a curriculum vitae and a one-page letter of motivation.
