Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi trains engineers to build reliable, secure software systems, managing projects from requirements analysis through deployment and maintenance, and is delivered full-time or with a flexible part-time option, in person, on the Saguenay campus. Coursework covers software architecture, design patterns, quality assurance, DevOps practices, networks, databases, and systems programming, with students able to focus on one of three tracks: industrial applications and embedded systems; security and mobile systems; or artificial intelligence and big-data processing. The program is coursework-based, with no thesis requirement, and concludes with a two-part capstone synthesis project. Admission requires college-level prerequisites in science or technical programs. The program suits students aiming to become software engineers who want to work on large-scale system development and project management across public and private sector organizations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Regular entry requires a Quebec DEC in Sciences de la nature (200.B1), Sciences, informatique et mathematique (200.C1), or Sciences, lettres et arts (700.A1), or any DEC meeting the required collegial objectives, with demonstrated competency in chemistry, mathematics (differential calculus, integral calculus, linear algebra) and physics (mechanics, electricity/magnetism, waves/modern physics). A technical-DEC pathway for holders of a DEC in Techniques de l'informatique (420.A0) is also available. Etudes-universitaires applicants qualify with 15 completed university credits and a 2.3/4.3 cumulative average plus the collegial standards; a preparation-suffisante route requires completed pre-university studies, the collegial standards, a CV, transcripts, at least three months of relevant work experience with an employer attestation, and a motivation letter. Non-native French speakers must pass a French test recognised by UQAC (TFI, TCF or TEF at B2/NCLC 8, or the DELF-B2 diploma) within 24 months before admission, and results must accompany the application. The programme admits in the fall and winter terms; part-time study is open to domestic students only.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons and First Nations) apply directly to UQAC and, for non-quota programmes, may submit an admission application until the end of the course-registration period for the winter, summer or fall term, making admission effectively rolling; contingented (limited-enrollment) programmes instead hold applications to a per-programme deadline before reviewing them together. International applicants face fixed, earlier windows: for the 2025-2026 cycle the fall 2026 term ran from 2 September 2025 to 1 March 2026, while winter and summer 2026 closed on 1 August 2025 and 12 December 2025 respectively; as of September 2026 UQAC has not yet published the equivalent winter, summer or fall 2027 international dates. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
