Overview
This interdisciplinary doctoral program trains researchers in Earth and atmospheric sciences, addressing the geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere and their interactions from both retrospective perspectives, such as lithospheric evolution, paleoceanography, and paleoclimatology, and forward-looking ones, such as Earth-system modelling. Graduates apply their expertise to natural resources, land-use planning, global change, and natural-hazard prevention. The 90-credit Doctorat en sciences de la Terre et de l'atmosphère develops independent, original research skills and a systemic understanding suited to planetary-scale geoscience problems. The program requires a minimum of three years of full-time study to complete. It is delivered on campus at the Saguenay campus, with admission offered in the fall, winter, and summer terms. Applicants work under the supervision of a thesis director from the outset of their studies, drawing on the resources of several departments and affiliated interuniversity research centres.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree in Earth sciences or a related field with a cumulative average of at least 3.2/4.3, or a bachelor's degree with at least five years of relevant professional experience. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English in addition to French. The application file must include three letters of recommendation, and admission requires written acceptance from a thesis supervisor before enrolment.
