This 30-credit certificate provides a foundational grounding in economic theory, offered full-time or part-time with admission in the fall and winter terms, mainly through daytime courses. Core courses cover microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods, while optional courses let students develop analytical and synthesis skills in applied areas of economics such as public policy, international trade, or labour markets. Applicants without a sufficient mathematics background may still be admitted on condition of passing a mathematics placement test or completing a remedial course (MAT1002) before proceeding. The certificate suits students seeking an introduction to economic analysis for professional or personal development, as a complement to studies in another discipline such as management or political science, or as a step toward further studies in economics. It does not require prior study in economics and is a standalone 30-credit credential distinct from the university's economics major or bachelor's program.
