Overview
This 30-credit certificate develops qualified tourism managers through a coherent, operational approach to the tourism system, offered full-time or part-time at the Montreal campus (with a distance-education alternative through TÉLUQ) and fall, winter, and summer admission. Ten required courses cover the fundamentals and socioeconomic context of tourism, event and congress management, tourism technology and distribution networks, the legal dimensions of tourism, territorial governance, urban and nature-based tourism, management and marketing fundamentals, and introductory accounting. Students gain theoretical and practical knowledge of the economic, political, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of tourism alongside core management competencies, preparing them for coordination, planning, and management roles in tourism enterprises, destination organizations, and event or congress operations across the public and private sectors, in Quebec and internationally.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry is via an appropriate DEC or equivalent diploma, or a diploma from outside Quebec after at least 13 years of schooling with a minimum average of 11/20. Applicants without a DEC may qualify at age 21 or older with at least two years of experience in tourism or in an administrative or management position. Those with prior university study need at least four completed university courses (12 credits) with a minimum average of 2.0/4.3. All candidates must demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of written and spoken French. Admission is offered in the fall, winter, and summer trimesters.
