The Master's in Visual and Media Arts (Maîtrise en arts visuels et médiatiques) at Université du Québec à Montréal trains students in research-creation and fosters critical reflection on current issues in art and arts education. It offers two concentrations: Creation, which stimulates creation and research in visual and media arts and reflection on the creative act and the artist's role in society; and Research-Intervention, which develops theoretical and practical knowledge supporting artistic and pedagogical intervention in formal and informal settings. The programme comprises 45 credits and is designed to be completed in two years (six terms) of full-time study, or four years part-time, with courses offered during the day and in the evening. Admission is offered in the fall term only. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in visual arts or visual arts education with a minimum cumulative average of 3.2 on a 4.3 scale, or demonstrate relevant knowledge, training, and experience. Creation-concentration applicants must submit artworks demonstrating competence, while Research-Intervention applicants must show sustained creativity and interest in visual arts teaching or artistic-pedagogical intervention.
