This 30-credit Diplome d'etudes superieures specialisees (DESS) trains graduates to apply atmospheric-science knowledge in operational meteorological forecasting and related sectors such as air quality, climate databases, and wind energy. The curriculum meets World Meteorological Organization training standards and prepares graduates for Professional Meteorologist (Met. P.) certification. Full-time students typically complete the program in three to four trimesters, with courses offered during the day; part-time completion takes up to eight trimesters. Admission is offered for the fall trimester only, at Universite du Quebec a Montreal's Montreal campus. The program builds on undergraduate training in meteorology, atmospheric science, physics, or applied science, deepening students' command of applied mathematics -- including differential and integral calculus, differential equations, and programming -- alongside classical physics topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, and electromagnetism. Graduates are equipped for forecasting-operations roles and other applied atmospheric-science positions in government and industry.
